AMARAVATI, November 1, 2026 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an “Extreme” cyclone alert covering 22 Andhra Pradesh districts at 9:54 p.m. IST on Sunday through the National Disaster Management Authority’s SACHET alert system, according to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority’s live cyclone tracker. The alert was listed as valid until 12:47 a.m. IST on November 2.
The alert carries the IMD’s forecast that Cyclone Murasu is very likely to move northwest and cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast as a severe cyclonic storm, with sustained winds of 100–110 km/h and gusts up to 120 km/h. The forecast crossing area is between Nellore and Narsapur, close to Ongole, around the night of November 2 and the early hours of November 3.
The new SACHET message is a fresh official warning distribution, not a report that the cyclone has reached land. It also does not mean that every district in the alert area will experience the same wind speeds or rainfall. Local conditions and instructions may differ by district and mandal.

The APSDMA tracker records the alert as “Extreme”, issued by IMD-Visakhapatnam at 9:54 p.m. IST on November 1. It lists the alert area as district-wide across 22 districts: Ananthapuramu, Annamayya, Bapatla, Chittoor, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, Eluru, Guntur, Kakinada, Krishna, Kurnool, Markapuram, Nandyal, NTR, Palnadu, Polavaram, Prakasam, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, Sri Sathya Sai, Tirupati, West Godavari and Y.S.R. Kadapa.
The alert’s stated expiry was 12:47 a.m. IST on November 2. Because SACHET alerts can be replaced, extended or cancelled by a later message, residents and local officials should check the live NDMA SACHET portal and the APSDMA cyclone tracker for the current status rather than rely on a saved screenshot or an earlier notification.
IMD National Bulletin No. 8, issued at 9 p.m. IST on November 1 and listed in the APSDMA tracker, says Murasu is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal. It forecasts a crossing close to Ongole, within the wider Nellore–Narsapur stretch, from about 11:30 p.m. on November 2 to 4 a.m. on November 3.
The forecast wind range is 100–110 km/h, with gusts reaching 120 km/h near the crossing. These are forecast values for the storm and its coastal impact zone; they should not be read as a prediction that every one of the 22 districts will record winds of that strength. Rainfall, wind and flooding risks will vary with the cyclone’s track, distance from the coast, local terrain and later IMD updates.
The distinction matters because the SACHET alert’s coverage area is wider than the expected landfall corridor. A district’s inclusion in a geo-targeted warning does not establish that the cyclone’s centre will pass over that district or that the same level of impact is expected everywhere.

Residents should follow the latest district advisories on evacuation, shelters, school closures, transport and access to coastal areas. People in low-lying locations should move to designated shelters if local authorities direct them to do so. Fishermen should follow the IMD’s marine warnings and instructions from fisheries and harbour authorities, and should not venture into affected waters against official advice.
Households can keep essential medicines, drinking water, charged phones and important documents ready. People should avoid walking or driving through floodwater, stay away from fallen electrical wires and not approach the shore to watch the storm. These precautions do not replace an evacuation order or other instructions issued by district officials.
The APSDMA tracker identifies the IMD as the authority for cyclone warnings and advises people to act on IMD bulletins and district orders. Its model layers are decision-support information, not substitutes for official warnings. The IMD cyclone bulletin archive and the SACHET feed should be checked for later updates.
