CHENNAI / VIJAYAWADA, November 2, 2026 — Updated 1:21 pm IST: Airlines cancelled services at Vijayawada and Chennai as heavy rain and strong winds associated with Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu disrupted air travel across parts of southern India. A report updated by The Times of India at 12:55 pm IST said IndiGo cancelled 10 flights scheduled to operate from Vijayawada, Air India Express cancelled two services linking Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada and Hyderabad and Vijayawada, and 11 flights were cancelled at Chennai airport.

The cancellations are route-specific; they do not mean that every flight at either airport has been suspended. The latest report did not provide flight numbers for the 10 IndiGo cancellations at Vijayawada or the two Air India Express services. Passengers should check the operating airline’s live flight-status page or app before leaving for the airport and contact the carrier about rebooking or other assistance.

Which flights were cancelled at Chennai airport?

Chennai Airport’s flight update, reproduced by DT Next, listed 11 cancelled services connecting Chennai with Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kadapa and Tiruchirappalli. Hindustan Times also reported the same 11 cancellations at 11:12:56 am IST, citing the airport’s notification. The listed IndiGo flight numbers and scheduled times were:

The times above are those shown in the airport update and should be treated as scheduled times, not as a substitute for a live airline confirmation. Flight numbers, departure times and operating arrangements can change during severe weather. Travellers with connecting journeys should check every leg of their booking, including any onward service from Chennai or Vijayawada.

The India Meteorological Department’s press release issued at 1 pm IST on November 2 said Murasu was expected to continue moving northwest and cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur, south of Ongole, from about 11:30 pm on Monday to 4 am on Tuesday, November 3. The forecast called for sustained winds of 100–110 km/h, with gusts up to 120 km/h near the crossing.

The IMD also forecast heavy to very heavy rain over parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Telangana on November 2 and 3, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall possible in some areas. Its impact guidance says road and rail traffic may be affected by heavy rain and squally winds, and advises that helicopter services be regulated. These are forecasts and operational warnings; they do not establish that every transport service has been halted.

Chennai and neighbouring districts have also received heavy rain from the cyclone’s outer bands. The disruption therefore extends beyond the area expected to experience landfall. Actual conditions can differ between airports and routes, depending on rainfall, wind direction, visibility and the operating limits applied by airlines and airport authorities.

Passengers booked to or from Chennai, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kadapa and Tiruchirappalli should verify their flight status with the airline before starting their journey. An airport’s list of cancellations may not cover every later schedule change, and a flight shown as operating can still be delayed or altered as weather conditions develop.

Airlines and airport authorities may revise operations as the cyclone approaches and conditions change. The reported cancellations are a snapshot of services affected on November 2, not a prediction that the same routes will remain suspended on November 3. Passengers travelling the following day should check their booking again before departure.
