What the double title means
Winning both finals gave India the men’s and women’s championships in the first edition of the Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship. The results underline the depth of the country’s national teams, but the tournament is a standalone competition. Its titles should not be described as Commonwealth Games medals or as Olympic qualification places.
The event brought together national teams from across the Commonwealth and gave the sport another international competition outside its established Asian calendar. Whether it develops into a regular fixture will depend on future editions, participation, and decisions by the organizers. No separate Commonwealth Games or Olympic qualification consequence was announced with Saturday’s results.
India’s men and women now leave Ahmedabad with the two inaugural titles. The final scores were 54-20 against Sri Lanka in the men’s competition and 35-15 against Uganda in the women’s competition.
