One Indian Killed After Commercial Vessel Is Attacked Off Oman; 13 Rescued

MUSCAT / NEW DELHI, November 3, 2026 — One Indian national has died after a commercial vessel was attacked near Limah on Oman’s coast, while 13 other Indians who were on board were rescued, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday.

The vessel, identified as MSV AL JUSUFI, was attacked on Monday evening, November 2. India condemned the incident and expressed condolences over the death. The publicly available statement did not identify those responsible for the attack or provide further details about the circumstances.

India’s Embassy in Muscat is in contact with Omani authorities and is coordinating arrangements for the early repatriation of the rescued Indian nationals and the mortal remains of the person who died, the MEA said. The ministry did not disclose the identity of the deceased or provide details about the condition of the survivors.

The incident comes amid heightened concern over the safety of commercial shipping in and around the Gulf and the wider Middle East. The MEA described continuing attacks on commercial vessels in the region as deeply concerning and called for an immediate reduction in tensions.

India also urged all parties to work towards a diplomatic solution and called for the restoration of free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through international waterways in accordance with international law. The ministry said attacks on commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure must stop to allow peace and stability to return to the region.

The latest incident adds to the risks facing seafarers and shipping operators at a time when regional military tensions have raised concerns about maritime movement and the security of civilian vessels. For India, the safety of nationals working aboard commercial ships remains a consular priority, particularly when incidents occur close to key international sea routes
